Ingredients
Tuvar dal – ½ glass
Water – 1 glass or a ¼ more
Anapakaya or Bottle gourd – 1/ 2 cup pieces
Onion – 1 big chopped
Ginger – ½ “ sliced finely
Green chillies – 1 sliced
Garlic – 3 pods
Methi seeds – 4
Salt to taste
Turmeric- ½ tsp.
Mustard – ½ tsp.
Split urad dal – ½ tsp.
Oil – 1 tbsp.
Red chilli – 1
Tamarind water – 2 tbsp.
Jaggery – a pinch
Method
- Take a pressure cooker and add oil into it. Once hot do the tempering with mustard seeds, red chilli, methi seeds and split urad dal.
- Now add in the bottle gourd pieces, onions, ginger and garlic.
- Mix well and then put the tamarind water, salt, turmeric and jaggery. Stir again.
- Pressure cook till done for about 3 whistles.
Note – This can be done with dondakaya or ivy gourd , tomato and even bendakaya or ladyfinger. Have to try out the last option 🙂
