Beerakaya Pappu | Ridge Gourd Dal


Tuvar dal – ½ glass
Water – 1 glass or a ¼ more
Beerakaya or Ridge gourd – 1/ 2 cup pieces
Tomato – 1 big chopped
Green chillies – 1 sliced
Salt to taste
Turmeric- ½ tsp.

For Tempering
Mustard – ½ tsp.
Split urad dal – ½ tsp.
Curry leaves – a few
Oil – 1 tsp.


  1. Take a pressure cooker and add all the ingredients of dal, ridge gourd pieces, tomato, and green chillies into it.
  2. Pour in the water and pressure cook till done.
  3. Add salt and turmeric and mix well.
  4. Do the tempering and serve hot.
