Pappu Charu | Dal Rasam | Andhra Style Pappu Charu

Ingredients

Tuvar dal – 1/2 cup
Tomatoes – 2 roughly chopped
Onion – 1 big chunks
Drumstick – 1 chopped
Radish – few pieces
Bottle gourd – few pieces
Carrot – few pieces
Green chillies – 2 slit
Water – 3 cups
Turmeric – ½ tsp.
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp.
Salt to taste
Tamarind juice – 2 tbsp.

To temper

Oil – 2 tsp.
Curry leaves – few
Red chillies – 2 or 3
Mustard – 1 tsp.
Cumin – 1 tsp.
Split urad dal  -1/2 tsp.
Garlic – 4 or 5 pods
Methi seeds – 2 or 3
Clove – 1

Method

  1. Pressure cook dal and mash well. Add chilli powder, salt, turmeric and water. Mix well.
  2. Add the onion pieces and green chillies and boil for a couple of minutes.
  3. Next add the tomatoes, drumstick, radish, bottle gourd and carrot. Continue boiling till vegetables are cooked.
  4. Now add the tamarind water and boil for a few more minutes till the raw flavor goes away.
  5. Lastly, do the tempering and at the end, add a clove. Add all of it to the rasam. Cover. Ready to serve.
