Anapakaya Kothimira Pachadi | Bottle Gourd Coriander Chutney

Ingredients

Bottle gourd – 2 cups chopped pieces
Coriander – 1 bunch
Green chillies – 2
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp.
Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp.
Garlic – 2 pods
Sesame or til – 2 tsp., roasted
Urad dal – 2 tsp.
Chana dal –  1 tsp.
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Tamarind paste – 1 tsp.
Salt to taste
Oil – 3 tsp.  or as required

Method

  1. Heat 1 tsp. of oil in a pan. Add 1 tsp. of urad dal, chana dal, green chillies, garlic and fenugreek seeds into it. Roast for a couple of minutes. Keep aside.
  2. In the same pan, add another 1 tsp. of oil and add the bottle gourd pieces along with turmeric. Sprinkle a little salt and water on top and cover and cook till the vegetable becomes soft.
  3. Add the coriander and cook for a few minutes. Cool and transfer contents alongwith the sesame and tamarind paste as well as the ingredients kept aside earlier to a mixie jar. Grind to a paste.
  4. Do tempering with the oil, mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves. Add to the chutney and serve.
